WEEKLY UPDATE SPORTS RESULTS UPDATE
Period: 4-10 November 2019
Below is a highlight of the sporting activities that Zimbabwean athletes and teams entered during the period 4-10 November 2019. The competitions were entered mainly from outside the country.

High Performance | · Benjamin and Courtney Lock participated in the Standard Bank Open Tennis Tournament in Maputo, Mozambique | · Benjamin and Courtney won the Standard Bank Open Tennis Doubles after beating Jake Delaney (Australia) and Bruno Nhavene (Mozambique) 6-4 6-3· The Lock Brothers won US$15000 as prize money | This is the Lock Brothers 13th professional title as a team. There is need to ensure that they continue to play high level tournaments so that their rankings can improve. |
2. High Performance Events | · Takanyi Garanganga participated in the singles section of the Standard Bank tournament in Maputo, Mozambique | · Takanyi lost in the finals of the tournament to David Perez Sanz of Spain 7-5 6-3 | There is need to support Takanyi especially with the coaching side of the Game because at times he plays without a coach as he cannot always afford to hire a coach |
3. High Performance Events | · Fortunate Chidzivo participated in the FNB Maputo City Run, Mozambique | · Fortunate came 2nd in time of 35.01 minutes | This was an improvement from her last outing to the African Games however, she is still chasing qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and there is need to monitor her performance and assist her wherever possible |
4. High Performance Events | · Zimbabwe Rugby 7s Cheetahs participated in the African Men’s Rugby in South Africa | · Zimbabwe came 3rd in the tournament which was an Olympic qualifiers and Zimbabwe missed the chance to automatically qualify for the Olympic Games | Zimbabwe still have a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games if they participate in the repecherage early next year |
5. Sponsorship | · Donata Katai the young and upcoming swimming sensation got support | · Donata got kit sponsorship from a British company Finis | This is a good deal and other sport codes should emulate and follow the footsteps |
