Zimbabwe Warriors Legends will clash against the FC Barcelona Legends on 12 November 2017 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. The match the first of its kind will be hosted in honour of His Excellency the President of Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Robert Mugabe to promote brand Zimbabwe as a safe tourist destination.
“The match which situates itself under the International Sport diplomacy programme as expressed in the National Sport and Recreation policy comes at a time when there are concerted efforts to promote Zimbabwe as a safe tourist destination. It is common knowledge that there is a lot of misinformation about Zimbabwe hence it has become absolutely necessary to market and project Brand Zimbabwe as a safe and hospitable destination for tourists across the globe” said Tirivashe Nheweyembwa one of the members of the Marketing Committee for the Games.
As we host these Legends we are also cognizant of the need to ensure that we also profile our local Legends who used to don our National colours as the pride of the nation.
“In order for us to host this match we are grateful to the Government for their outstanding and unwavering support that they have lended to the match right from inception to where we are at the moment. We are truly indebted to His Excellency for the undivided support and we are also dedicating this match to him for his outstanding and impeccable Statesmanship which he has exhibited not just in this country but also across the African continent’, Nheweyembwa added.
The gate charges for the match have been pegged at $2 rest of the ground, $10 VIP and $50 for the VVIP and the gates will open at 12pm. A curtain raiser match pitting Dynamos and Highlanders will be played at 1pm.
Some Warriors Legends who have been included in the team include Peter Ndlovu, Benjani Mwaruwari, Brenna Msiska among others. FC Barcelona Legends will arrive in the country on 11 August 2017.
