In an epic and highly exciting match the Zimbabwe Warriors Legends and FC Barcelona Legends lived up to the bill on 12 November 2017 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare as the match ended in a 2 all draw. A record crowd of approximately 45 000 thronged the National Sports Stadium to watch their former great players and the FC Barcelona Legends who jetted into the country in the wee hours of the morning on 12 November 2017.
It was the former Dutch international Patrick Kluivert who put the visitors ahead with a brace of well executed headers in the first half and the Warriors Legends equaled the score line with Zenzo Moyo and Edward Sadomba in the second half.
The match attracted high profile officials from Government led by the Vice President Hon. Phelekezela Mphoko and other Ministers such as Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Makhosini Hlongwane, Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha, Tourism, Hospitality Industry and Environment Edgar Mbwembwe and Harare Metropolitan Province Minister of State Miriam Chikukwa.
Vice President Mphoko was all smiles that the match was indeed a success especially that the FC Barcelona Legends were in the country to see for themselves what Zimbabwe had to offer.
“I am happy that FC Barcelona Legends are here they have seen it for themselves that there are no dead bodies in the streets of Harare”, said Mphoko.
The Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee responsible for Logistics Martin Dururu was satisfied with the turn out and level of organization that was exhibited by the Organizing Committee in a short space of time that they were given.
“The Organizing Committee worked round the clock and to ensure that the match is a success and I am happy that we worked as a team in order to ensure that we bring the best of Zimbabwe to our esteemed visitors” Dururu said.
The match was held in honour of His Excellency President Robert Mugabe for His outstanding and iconic Statesmanship over the years and to promote Brand Zimbabwe.
