Sports and Recreation Commission Harare Province have taken the Sports Administration course by extending the invitation to the former footballers and current footballers such as Edward Sadomba, Justice Majabvi and Thomas Svesve, Wonder Sithole, Alvin Ndunduma recently.
The course which is meant to ensure that candidates are equipped with the right skills and techniques which will make them high level and innovative Managers capable of taking sport to another level. During the two day course which was held in Harare at Girls High covered aspects such as:
- The history of Sport and Recreation
- Organizational Structure of Sport and Recreation in Zimbabwe
- Sport legislation in Zimbabwe
- Corporate Governance
- Community Sport and Recreation Development Concept
- How to run a successful club
- How to effectively market sport and recreation programme
- Sport nutrition
- Doping in Sport among others
“Our sport can only improve if we manage to educate the sport leaders, gone are the days when we used to have sport fans disguised as sport administrators.
“Sport is now a big industry and we need to up our game if we are going to be a force to reckon with and contribute to the GDP. It is in our hands we can only improve the situation if the sport leaders are enlightened with the latest trends in sport”, Simba Gochera SRC Harare Provincial Sport Coordinator said.
Edward Sadomba who is now plying his trade in Qatar was full of praise for the course as he said it was an eye opener to him as he was exposed to the roles and responsibilities of the Sport Administrators.
“The course was an opener to me as a player and I am happy that I learnt how to manage sport. Zimbabwe cannot be run by unprofessional sport administrators.
“It essence, this training programme that we went through adds value to the sport and recreation landscape. We need to have sport organizations which run their programmes smoothly”, Edward Sadomba said.
Another local football icon who was also happy with the course was Justice Majabvi and Thomas Svesve they were ecstatic about the course and its depth as he felt that it was quite educative.
“It was so educative and to me it was adding icing to the cake, I do understand sport very much but I needed to be qualified. It adds value in the sense that we need proper sport administrators running various sporting disciplines as opposed to the previous trends were people would be doing the opposite”, added Majabvi
Thomas Svesve another retired football star also attended the course and said that his personal strategy was to further his knowledge and education in sport.
“My strategy is to further educate myself in sport management and this course has come in handy. I want to thank the presenters for enlightening me and I hope to contribute to the development of sport through the new knowledge acquired”, added Svesve.
The course was attended by 45 participants from Harare Metropolitan province and other provinces such as Matabeleland South, Mashonaland West and others.
