Dr Allen Chiura is a Zimbabwean born Urological Surgeon who lived and practiced in the United States for 30 years. He did is undergraduate and graduate work at The American University in Washington DC before attending The Medical College of Pennsylvania for medical school. This was followed by specialty training in Urology, beginning at Howard University Hospital and completed at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was Chief Resident finishing in 1998. He then went in private practice in Delaware, Ohio and finally Oregon where he was a Clinical Assistant Professor at Oregon Health Sciences University.
He returned to Zimbabwe in 2012 to open his Urology practice and to facilitate the training of young urologists at Parirenyatwa Government Hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Dr Chiura is the Past President of Alliance Françoise Board, past Board Member of Culture Fund of Zimbabwe, current Board Member of the National Sports and Recreation Commission of Zimbabwe.
He is also a board member of Pulse Pharmaceuticals Group.
He is a member of the Medical and Dental Council’s Education Liaison Committee and is currently the treasurer of the Association of Urological Surgeons of Zimbabwe. He is also a member of the board of trustees of Barwick School.
Dr. Chiura was an avid sportsman in his youth. He was the first black player to be selected for Mashonaland seniors. He unfortunately left for university in the United States before he could join his fellow Chaminuka rugby star Richard Tsimba on the Zimbabwe team. As a result, he is passionate about youth development through sport as it has served him so well.
Together with wife Dr. Nozipo Maraire, they are Co-Presidents of the Discovereum, the first and only interactive Children’s Museum, in Zimbabwe.
