The Sports and Recreation Commission was saddened to learn of the death of its founding chairman Mr Alwyn Pichanick yesterday 09- October 2017 in Australia. Mr Pichanick was appointed to the SRC Board in 1991 at the inception of the SRC following the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Organization and Administration of Sport of 1989.
Alwyn was an accomplished Sport Administrator par excellence who cut his teeth in Cricket where He worked for many years as a Cricket Selector before He was elevated to the higher position of chairing the SRC Board as position which He served until 2000. He was not a distinguished Sports Administrator He was also an accomplished Lawyer whose service was impeccable and beyond reproach.
It was during his tenure as the Chairman of the SRC that the National Sport Associations were registered properly, that the SRC got into partnership with the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic and Confederation of Sport (NIF) whose fruits included the Sport for All programme among others.
As we mourn the death of this great men who was a reservoir and a repository of knowledge, we implore the young and upcoming Sport Administrators to emulate the good works that were done by Alwyn in both the legal and sporting fraternities.
On behalf of the Sports and Recreation Commission Board, Management and Staff we would to collectively offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Bryony, family and friends for the sad loss of a giant and a towering figure who touched the lives of many people. May the Lord Almighty give you the strength and courage during these extremely difficult and trying times.
May his Dear Departed Soul Anchor and Rest in Eternal Peace.
